About the art

Pichwai is a devotional painting tradition from Nathdwara in Rajasthan, more than 400 years old. The paintings were first made as cloth backdrops for Shrinathji, the child form of Lord Krishna, and they are filled with the things he loved: his cows, lotus ponds, peacocks and leafy trees. The cow, often seen as Kamdhenu, stands for abundance and Krishna's love for his herd.
